How to make chocolate peanut butter energy balls:

Blend together the oats and almonds, then separately blend the dates, cocoa powder and peanut butter into a smooth paste. Mix the two together to form a sticky dough and roll into balls!

Notes on this recipe

  • You can use rolled oats or porridge oats in this recipe. Do NOT use steel cut oats as these cannot be consumed raw.
  • If you don’t have almonds, you can substitute walnuts, peanuts, or hazelnuts.
  • If your dates are too hard, soak them in hot water for a few minutes to soften them up.

Yes! Simply swap the peanut butter for tahini or sunbutter, and replace the almonds with sunflower or pumpkin seeds.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup/ 50 grams Oats rolled oats or porridge oats
  • â…› cup/ 20 grams Raw Almonds or hazelnuts/peanuts/walnuts
  • 4 Medjool Dates soft and sticky
  • 2 tsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Peanut Butter

Instructions

  • Add the oats and almonds to a blender or food processor and grind into a fine powder. Add the powder to a medium bowl and set aside.
  • Check your dates are soft by giving them a squeeze. If they are too firm, soak the dates in hot water for a few minutes until soft and squidgy.
  • Add the dates, peanut butter and cocoa powder to the blender and blend until creamy and well combined. If it is not blending, you can add a little water.
  • Add the blended date mixture to the bowl and use your hands to bring everything together into a sticky dough. 
  • Roll the dough into 8-10 balls and enjoy!

Notes

  • If the mixture is too wet, add a few oats to help bind it. If it is too dry, add a little water. The mixture should be sticky and easy to roll into balls.
  • These energy balls will keep in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
